Third Party Contractors vs. Independent Contractors

There are many large companies out there who are offering a “full service” approach to new heating and cooling installations.  They will complete your energy audit and then “find” you a contractor to complete your installation.  They will tell you that it is all done through their company; but, ultimately, they are selling your job to the lowest bidding subcontractor, not the most qualified.  These contractors may or may not be certified, properly licensed or knowledgeable enough to offer you the best equipment for your comfort and energy needs.  And, will they be there for you when you have a problem after installation.

Your Contractor Should be Your Choice

Why would you use a third party and often pay up to 10% more than hiring your own contractor?   Your installation contractor should be your choice, to ensure you are comfortable with their knowledge, professionalism and reputation.  They should be someone who is willing to be responsive to your needs and take as much time as necessary to answer all of your questions.

Complimentary Energy Audits

Some of the larger third part contractors will try to lure you in with their promise of a free energy audit.  But, you can get a free energy audit through MassSave and often will be able to take advantage of other incentives they may have available.  MassSave is an organization who will provide a complimentary energy audit and also currently offers interest-free loans for qualifying installations, in addition to other rebates and incentives.  There is no need to use a their party just for a free energy audit.
