Frequently Asked Questions, Part 3

11. Q. what other purposes can my solar collector serve besides a hot shower and hot sink water?
A. Our Viessmann collectors can be used for other applications such as heated pools and hot spas. Our collectors are high temperature collectors, and are therefore greatly suited for hot spas, as the water temperature is high and the volume is small. For swimming pools, solar systems are less ideal because the water volume is very large. The cost of heating a pool using solar collectors may be too costly for residential purposes. This system would be more cost effective for large scale swimming pools to supplement electricity of gas.

12. Q. Are solar panels and solar energy cost effective systems for large scale hot water production?
A. Yes, we do manufacture and install large scale systems for commercial buildings such as hotels, school buildings, public political buildings, and office buildings. We are able to customize systems to any tank and any size. Collectors must be installed in banks not exceeding 150 tubes in a series. Going any higher than 150 tubes in a series can cause the water in the tank to boil.

13. Q. How does using solar help the environment?
A. We have estimated that in 2005 alone we have reduced CO2 emissions by more than 8000 tonnes per year. CO2 emissions are one of the main causes of global warming, or "The Greenhouse Effect." We are currently installing thousands of Viessmann solar systems per year in countries such as Mexico, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and many other locations. The world is under a general consensus that CO2 emissions and global warming is a serious problem, and all countries have been called upon to pitch in. There is new data being released suggesting warnings about CO2 emissions and the resulting harmful effects on the environment.

In the average household, water heating counts for about 30% of our CO2 emission. The installation of a solar water heater can provide between 55-75% of a household's water heating needs, and lower your total CO2 emission by more than 20%.
14. Q. What special Certifications/Accreditations has Viessmann solar obtained?
A. the Viessmann solar collector has obtained Swiss SPF, US SRCC and Australian Standards quality and performance certificates.
  1. Australia Standards Product Certification (AS2712) certifies our product's proficiency related to the design and construction of solar and heat pump water heaters.
  2. Our SPF Quality and Performance Certification demonstrates a proficiency as one of the leading test centers for quality control and performance.
  3. Our SRCC OG100 Solar Collector Certification demonstrates successful testing of quality control by the SRCC (Solar Rating and Certification Corporation.)
