March 1, 2014 QIV – Quality Installation Verification

TJ’s Is A Cool Smart QIV Contractor

Not all HVAC contractors are created equally.  TJ’s ensures that QIV testing is performed at each annual service.  It’s just one more way we provide our customers with an exceptional level of service.  We know that HVAC equipment is an investment and we take protecting their investment very seriously.  Annual maintenance and QIV testing is one way to ensure their equipment operates efficiently year after year.

What Is QIV And Why Is It Important

QIV is a verification process performed by a contractor to ensure that your air conditioning units are properly charged and have sufficient air flow. We often find units newly installed by other contractors under or overcharged because the installer did not have the proper education and/or tools to sufficiently test the equipment for proper charge.

What Will Happen If Your System Fails the QIV Test?

In the event that we find over or undercharging, we may have to add refrigerant or remove refrigerant.  If we are removing refrigerant, we always follow safe recovery and reclamation methods to ensure we protect the environment.

In many cases, obtaining correct airflow may require additional work, such as duct sealing or changes to the duct system, for which there may be additional costs. These additional costs, though, are well worth the investment in system performance, equipment reliability and long-term energy savings.

Once modifications have been made, we perform another QIV test to ensure that system is properly charged and has sufficient air flow.

It All Starts With A Professional Installation

TJ’s always ensures each of our installations includes Manual J heat loads to determine appropriate system sizing.  And, all of our installations include proper duct sealing.  Following our professional installations, annual service and QIV testing is performed to ensure continued system efficiency and comfort.   No job is complete until our customer is satisfied with the system installation and operation and their equipment passes the QIV test.
